The Kamakhya Devi Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, revered pilgrimage sites in Hinduism dedicated to the various aspects of the divine feminine, Shakti. Legend narrates the tale of Sati, the consort of Lord Shiva, who self-immolated in a sacrificial fire. Overcome with grief, Lord Shiva carried her body across the universe, and wherever her body parts fell, a Shakti Peetha emerged. The Kamakhya Devi Temple is believed to enshrine Sati's yoni (womb), imbuing the temple with immense spiritual significance. Overnight stay in Pithoragarh.
